The march of time

I watched a little of "Nowhere in Africa" today.
It is the story of a young German/Jewish family
that escaped from Nazi Germany.
They hear from their families
who are stuck in Germany
and who, over time, tell them
about the rising tide of Nazi
persecution until at last they are
taken to the camps.

It is a very sad story and
as I thought about the
helplessness that the
young people felt I began
to identify with the feeling.
Here we are, in the grip of
a madman who is doing his
best to destroy world peace,
our country our environment,
and our freedoms.
And there doesn't look like
we can stop him.
The middle class
in this country has been sold
a bill of goods that is going to
result in the rich getting richer
and the middle class getting poor.

I am not even sure if they realize
what is going on.
Certainly the news media is not
giving out the story.

If we should suffer another terrorist
attack I am afraid that the Republicans
will take the opportunity to turn this
country into a facist state,
they are well on that
road even now.

I hope and pray that the Democrats
in congress and the senate finally
find their spines and stand up against
the shrub.
